The stereotype vs the reality

Ahh New Orleans – a party town, but one that still is way more than just happy hour on Bourbon Street.

As a regular visitor, I’ve been happy to find things that makes the city tick – and what is the reality – its not just salacious behaviour and catching beads.

One of the things I love is the architecture – influenced by Europe, especially France, the beautiful hanging baskets and wrought iron balconies defy the crazy party scene.

I love the pride in their city and although their patch of home doesn’t have a courtyard (although many do!) they bring some Mother Nature into their surroundings.

So yes, you’ll see the beads, the freaks, musicians and people drinking cocktails from grenade-inspired plastic cups  in the middle of the street – and you’ll see the elegance of brick and European-inspired architecture and people chatting in the shaded patios of courtyards.

For this city, its easy to balance both – just remember that one doesn’t define this unique city.
