The wee organic bakery

I travel for bakeries – if that bumper sticker existed I’d own it.

Life is never bad in a bakery – warm, sweet, savoury – its all good. And for some reason, the smaller the town, sometimes the better the bakery.

Perhaps it feels more like what would happen at home or when visiting a close relative during the holidays.

So although I was happily planning for an active exploration of the Bruce Peninsula, it hadn’t occurred to me that I would also find some amazing food.

Harvest Moon Organic Bakery is a lovely place, located just outside Lion’s Head Ontario – just down the road as they say. Its a combination of a commercial outlet, a private residence, an orchard and extensive walking paths with sculptures.

Its funky, unique and definitely not a conventional looking place – somehow it makes sense that its also the home to several options for vegetarians, vegans and those who need to eat gluten-free.

I wonder why the stereotype of something natural is also equivalent to a bit odd, quirky and brightly-coloured? Is handcrafted never sleek and modern?

But back to the bakery – filled with the warm comforting scents that make life better – and certainly make a place more than just a destination to check off the list.

As I chose lunch and headed to sit under an apple tree shaded from the sun, I was happily reaffirming my devotion to bakeries, no matter what the items on offer.
