Eating fresh from the sea

Visiting coastal communities to me means I’ll be eating something fresh from the sea – and in Morro Bay, tasting something that came out of the nearby ocean was easily done.

The harbour area of Morro Bay has several restaurants, including Tognazzini’s Dockside Restaurant. So what separates this dockside dining from many others?

One of the owners of this restaurant is a commercial fisherman, and with his crew, is daily bringing in fresh fish and seafood from the Pacific Ocean.

So as I heard him describe what its like to be fishing on the Pacific Ocean, and what was easily found in their nets, I started to smell the scent of chowder.

How can you resist a combination of fresh seafood with herbs and tomatoes, simmered slowly and then presented simply – letting the ingredients take center stage?

As seagulls were intrigued by what was going on – and the busy dockworkers were moving seafood and fish from boats to trucks – the reality of sitting among those who brought the food to the table, and then enjoying the food, made it seem even better.

From sea to table – my new favourite way to dine.
