Where the wild things are – Nemo

Provo - fishWe’re all in search of the elusive Nemo when we go snorkeling.

It’s all because of Pixar Animation Studios that we’ve become fixated on a parrot fish sighting when we go beneath the water’s surface.

Since I learned to snorkel, I’ve been thankful for being able to go on many excursions in Hawaii, Caribbean and Central America .

It never fails to amaze me how lucky we are when we can descend into the sea, and start looking around with the goggles and see a rainbow of fish darting through the coral reefs and plants.

I’ve figured out that the closer to the reef, the better chance to see fish, and like many of us, they tend to travel with friends.

One of my favourite areas was the reef off-shore of the island of Providenciales in the Turks & Caicos.

The fish were plentiful along the reef, from neon bright colours to subtle pale shades  – each group trying to elude the larger creature who has come to look at them.

And at each point when I would surface and see the rolling sea waves, I would wonder why anyone wouldn’t want to descend below the surface. There’s a whole lot more going on than we realize, even if I didn’t spot Nemo.
