Isla Baltra’s landscapes

A popular island of the Galapagos is Baltra – not because of its wildlife, but because of the hike up the mountain to obtain an amazing view of that area of the islands.

Starting at sea level, my group steadily walked up to the first landing already noticing the difference in landscape from the black rock of the shore to clay sandy soil and small sagebrush.

As we went higher, there was more sagebrush and more rock, and we focused more on the landscape that on the surrounding islands.

It became rockier, and the steepness of the grade became a bit tougher. We walked steadily up the wooden steps and wooden path, hitting another landing before ascending to the summit.

And from the top it was glorious to see several islands from above. To know that I had snorkeled around the distinctive tall pillar at the end of Baltra Island and now was looking down at it.

On my last full day in the Galapagos Islands, it was fitting to finally go high up like the many birds we had been watching in the skies, seeing another perspective on the beauty of these islands.
