No blank walls

From the Quartier Latin to the former red light district, the city of Montreal doesn’t seem to have many blank walls.

Whether its sanctioned murals or graffiti, its all about contemporary art.

Montreal - Latin Quartier collage

Brightly-coloured murals started appearing as a way to offset the aging landscape – to enhance the neighbourhood.

For the Quartier Latin, an area known for its brewpubs and restaurants with terraces, it makes sense to include murals in an area where so many people spend time on the street.

Montreal - graffiti collage

In other neighbourhoods going through gentrification, graffiti has become a noticeable part of the landscape – but for me, it makes the area more interesting and offers an artistic sensibility that is absolutely, distinctly Montreal.
