Small town: Gananoque, Ontario

Small town living has certain characteristics – many of which are still intriguing to me, especially with my camera in hand:

Ontario - Gananoque Delaney

like this old theatre building and its sign – the old school script of the Art Deco era.

Ontario - Gananoque maple leaf

Or this throwback to European style for this German restaurant called the Maple Leaf – with its bright orange sign.

Or checking out this view, of the back of the local Catholic Church which sits above the Gananoque River. Seeing the beautiful old stone contrast with the boathouses is very small town style to me.

On the opposite side is a marina and a few abandoned buildings – but this area will be transformed over the next couple of years. The marina will be updated, a boardwalk put in for residents and these old buildings will be repurposed into housing. A good thing for a small town – keeping history and future possibilities in balance.
