Fave shot – the colourful wares of Otavalo, Ecuador

This image from the Saturday market in Otavalo is just as I remember – vibrant, eye-catching and smile-inducing:

Ecuador - Otavalo puppets

As I had seen in other South American countries, the locals loved colour – and at this one vendor, the handmade pouches and small purses were dominated by this pile of puppets.

Wild and farm animals, people, creatures – they’re just fun finger puppets, which I just adored. I loved that they were in a massive pile, and that a small child would be overwhelmed and excited by the prospect of having to choose. I had a hard time, but in the end thought about who would receive them and chose on their behalf.

Although this doesn’t show any person, its a reminder of the colourful environment of Ecuador – a whirl of so much of Mother Nature’s creations.
